Social Security Disability Claim
What can I expect if my claim is approved?
If your application for Social Security disability benefits is approved, your first check
will be paid for the sixth full month after the date your disability began.
For example, if the Social Security Administration decides your disability began in March,
your first disability check will be paid for the month of September. Social Security
benefits are paid in the month following the month for which they are due. In this example, you
will receive your September benefit in October.
If approved, what will my benefit payment be?
The amount of your monthly disability payment is based on your average lifetime
earnings. Your Social Security Statement displays
your lifetime earnings and gives an estimate of your disability benefit. It also
includes estimates of retirement and survivors benefits that you or your family
may be eligible to receive in the future.
